Full description
  • An excursion that blends history and the present in the capital of Montenegro. Departure from Budva with a guide is at 9:00 AM. Upon arrival in Cetinje, we will tour King Nikola's Palace, located on the main court square. The museum houses tens of thousands of artifacts in its archaeological, ethnographic, and art collections. It also features a court library with 10,000 rare titles. Nearby are several other historical buildings, which we will pass by and learn about their history. Next, we will enjoy a tasting of national specialties from the Cetinje area: homemade wine and rakija, Njeguški pršut, cheese, and priganice. After that, we visit the Mausoleum located on one of the highest peaks of Lovćen. The path leading to the mausoleum consists of 461 steps. Inside the mausoleum, there is a statue of Njegoš and a crypt with his tomb. From the mausoleum, a path continues to a lookout point resembling a Montenegrin guvno, offering views of Lake Skadar, the Bay of Kotor, and Katunska Nahija, which Bernard Shaw famously called the "Sea of Stone." We then descend to Njeguši, where you can have lunch at a national cuisine restaurant at your own expense. The return is via the old royal road Njeguši-Kotor, famous for its Kotor serpentine curves, with a photo stop to enjoy views of the Bay of Kotor and Tivat.
