Niksic Tour Guide
On the elevation of Petrova Glavica, in the heart of Nikšić, stands the Cathedral of Saint Basil of Ostrog – a symbol of faith, freedom, and national unity. Construction began in 1895 and was completed in 1900, based on the design of Russian architect Mihailo Preobraženski. The church was erected in honor of Montenegrin and Herzegovinian heroes who perished in the wars from 1875 to 1880. This imposing three-nave structure, with a 55-meter-high bell tower, adorns the city center. The interior features an iconostasis crafted in Russia, with icons painted by Russian masters. Today, the Cathedral is not only an architectural masterpiece but also the spiritual center of Nikšić, where believers gather for liturgies and major holidays, especially on May 12th, the feast day of Saint Basil of Ostrog.
