On the southern approach to Nikšić, spanning the Zeta River, lies Tsar's Bridge – a monumental stone structure from 1894. Stretching 269 meters with 18 arches and a height of 13 meters, the bridge was designed by architect Josip Slade and financially supported by Russian Tsar Alexander III, after whom it was named. Construction lasted six months, and according to legend, a gold coin was embedded in each pillar, symbolizing Montenegro's gratitude to Russia. The bridge was a vital link on the road connecting Nikšić to Podgorica, facilitating trade and communication. Today, Tsar's Bridge stands as a testament to history and a symbol of the friendship between Montenegro and Russia, attracting visitors with its architectural beauty and historical significance.
