Full description
- Our journey begins in Virpazar, as we head towards the enchanting island of Beška, known for its two 14th-century monasteries and as a year-round home to 14 nuns. This is just the start of our adventure on Lake Skadar. Beška Island As a significant religious center in the Lake Skadar region, the island holds immense historical and cultural importance. The hospitable nuns are proud of their rich knowledge of the island's heritage, which they eagerly share with visitors during tours. Beška Island is also known for its diverse wild bird population, including eagles, herons, and cormorants. Cruising the Open Waters of Lake Skadar Our cruise across the open lake allows us to pass by landmarks such as Grmožur, known as the Montenegrin Alcatraz, and the fishing village of Raduš, though we do not stop. Grmožur, which once served as a prison, was also a strategic military fortress in the past. Built to protect Lake Skadar from potential attacks, it was a crucial part of the area's defense. Visitors can explore these impressive ruins and learn more about the rich history and significance of Grmožur on Lake Skadar. Return to Virpazar After enjoying the panoramic views and visiting Beška Monastery, we return to our starting point - Virpazar. This boat ride through Lake Skadar leaves us with wonderful memories.
