Church of Saint Elijah – A Quiet Sanctuary Above Petrovac

Perched on a hill above Petrovac, surrounded by olive groves and pine trees, stands the Church of Saint Elijah – one of the oldest sanctuaries in the area. Built in the 14th or 15th century, this Orthodox church is dedicated to the prophet Elijah, protector against thunder and storms. Its simple stone architecture and bell tower reflect humility and spiritual strength. Throughout the centuries, the church has been a place of prayer and refuge for locals, especially during difficult times. Inside, icons and frescoes bear witness to the deep faith and traditions of the Paštrovići people. Today, the Church of Saint Elijah is not only a place of worship but also a cultural and historical monument attracting visitors seeking peace and spiritual renewal. From the plateau in front of the church, there is a beautiful view of Petrovac and the Adriatic Sea, making it an ideal spot for contemplation and enjoying natural beauty.
