Andrijevica Tour Guide
On a wooded hillside above Andrijevica lies the Memorial to Fallen Fighters and Victims of Fascism, set within the Knjaževac Memorial Park. It was built in 1975 in memory of the fighters from the Andrijevica region who lost their lives during World War II, as well as civilians who were killed by occupying forces. The central monument is a bold sculptural composition made of concrete and stone, typical of Yugoslav memorial architecture of the time. It features stylized human figures that symbolize resistance, suffering, and sacrifice. Inscriptions carved into the stone list the names of local partisans and victims, grouped by villages. The memorial stands on the very location where, in July 1944, the German 7th SS Division "Prinz Eugen" executed over 400 civilians and fighters during one of the most brutal reprisals in the region. The event is commemorated annually, and the park remains a site of remembrance and historical education. Today, the Knjaževac Memorial is a protected cultural site and a place where local history, collective memory, and anti-fascist values are preserved through architecture and silence.
