Tour guide of Risan
Kotor
In the center of Risan, surrounded by olive trees and bay silence, stands the Church of Saints Peter and Paul – the town’s most important Orthodox sanctuary. Built in 1601 through a joint effort of locals, it was later reconstructed and took its final form in 1796, based on designs by Italian architect Antonio Costa, who tragically died during construction. The church is unique in the Bay of Kotor for its three-nave layout. Inside is a richly decorated iconostasis made in Russia, with gilded Venetian frames and icons from the Dimitrijević-Rafailović school. In the churchyard stands a smaller Church of Saint Archangel Michael from 1767. Together, they quietly preserve the deep spiritual and artistic heritage of Risan.
