Tour guide of Risan

Nestled between steep hills and the sea, on the northern edge of the Bay of Kotor, lies Risan – the oldest town in the region. Its roots go back to the ancient Illyrian settlement of Rizinium, and in the 3rd century BC, it was a stronghold of Queen Teuta, known for resisting Roman expansion. According to legend, after her defeat, Teuta leapt into the sea beneath the town, leaving behind a hidden treasure that has never been found – a tale that still sparks the imagination. During Roman times, Risan became a thriving trade center. The remains of a luxurious Roman villa house stunning 2nd-century mosaics, including a unique depiction of Hypnos, the god of sleep – the only known mosaic of its kind in the Balkans. Today, Risan offers a peaceful escape from the crowds. Its proximity to Perast, Kotor, and Herceg Novi makes it a perfect base for exploring the Bay of Kotor.
