Niksic Tour Guide
At the foot of Petrova Glavica, beside the Cathedral of Saint Basil of Ostrog, lies King Nikola’s Palace Complex – a testament to the state-building vision and cultural ascent of Nikšić in the late 19th century. Built in 1900 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Prince Nikola’s reign, the palace was designed by architect Josip Slade. Constructed in the Neo-Renaissance style, with carved stone, an atrium, and double arcades, it served as a representative residence of the Montenegrin court. Today, the complex houses the County Museum, the "Njegoš" Library, and the "Nikola I" and "Ilija Šobajić" galleries. The museum exhibits archaeological, historical, and ethnological collections, including artifacts from the Crvena Stijena site and items from the liberation wars. King Nikola’s Palace Complex stands as a witness to Nikšić’s rich history and is an essential destination for all lovers of culture and history.
