Budva tour guide

Located on a plateau within Budva’s Old Town, the Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1804, marking a key moment in the city’s spiritual and architectural history. This single-nave church features a semicircular apse, a prominent dome above the center, and a three-light bell gable, following the coastal tradition of alternating rows of gray and reddish stone blocks. The richly decorated Baroque iconostasis rises high inside the church, its icons created in two stages. The first series, likely done right after the church’s construction, was painted by an anonymous Greek artist. The upper parts were completed in 1864 by Nikola Aspiotis from Corfu. In front of the church lies the grave of prominent Montenegrin writer and politician Stjepan Mitrov Ljubiša (1824–1878). Today, the Church of the Holy Trinity stands not only as a religious center, but also as one of Budva’s most iconic landmarks, harmoniously blending history, faith, and Mediterranean aesthetics.
