Pljevlja tour guide

Spanning the Tara River at 172 meters high, the Đurđevića Tara Bridge is one of Montenegro’s most iconic structures. Completed in 1940 and designed by engineer Mijat S. Trojanović, it was the highest road bridge in Europe at the time. With five graceful arches stretching 365 meters across the canyon, it remains a masterpiece of civil engineering. During World War II, in 1942, Yugoslav partisans blew up one of its arches to halt Italian troops. The act was led by engineer Lazar Jauković, who was later captured and executed on the bridge he helped build. Today, the bridge offers breathtaking views of the Tara River Canyon – the deepest in Europe – and serves as a gateway to adrenaline-filled adventures like rafting and zip-lining. It stands not only as a technical marvel but also as a silent monument to resistance and resilience.
