Holy Trinity Monastery – A Hidden Jewel of Spiritual Heritage

Gallery

Nestled just 1.5 km north of Pljevlja, the Holy Trinity Monastery stands as a testament to centuries of faith and cultural richness. First mentioned in 1537, it's believed to have been built upon the remnants of a 13th-century Nemanjić-era monastery. The monastery became a significant center for manuscript transcription in the 16th and 17th centuries, with monks like Gavrilo Trojičanin producing numerous religious texts. Its treasury houses over 1,700 artifacts, including a 16th-century gilded reliquary and a chalice from 1578. A revered relic, the casket of Saint Sava, is believed to have been kept here, attracting both Orthodox and Muslim pilgrims over the centuries. The monastery's frescoes, painted by Strahinja of Budimlje, and icons by Andrija Raičević, add to its spiritual and artistic significance.
