Oko Skakavice

Deep in the mountains of Prokletije, tucked between steep cliffs and forests, lies a hidden emerald gem—Oko Skakavice, or The Eye of Skakavica. This tiny glacial lake is a mountain lagoon so clear and deep that locals say it sees everything—hence the name “the Eye.” Fed by the freezing underground waters of the Skakavica River, the lake is only about 30 meters wide, but its color is unreal—an intense turquoise framed by rock and pine. In spring, the snows melt and bring new life to its surface, while the stillness reflects the towering peaks around it. Oko Skakavice is a sacred spot for hikers, often reached on trails from nearby Vusanje or Grebaje Valley. It’s a place of pause, of silence, of awe. Few places feel so intimate and alive, where nature seems to whisper its oldest secrets. It’s not just a lake—it’s the soul of the mountains, resting in the open palm of Prokletije.
