Tour guide of Herceg Novi
Located just 2 kilometers east of Herceg Novi, the Savina Monastery is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation and offers breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor. The complex includes two churches dedicated to the Assumption of the Holy Virgin, a monastic residence with a rich treasury, and the Church of Saint Sava, perched on a nearby hill. The monastery treasury houses valuable relics, including a 13th-century crystal cross believed to have belonged to Saint Sava, a 1642 embroidered shroud, a gospel book from 1685, a portrait of Russian Tsar Peter the Great, and the revered icon of Our Lady of Savina. The larger church, built between 1777 and 1799 by master builder Nikola Foretić, features a remarkable iconostasis created by priest Simeon Lazović and his son Aleksej. The Church of Saint Sava, according to tradition dating back to the 13th century, offers a panoramic view over the bay. Through centuries, Savina Monastery has remained a spiritual and cultural beacon of the Bay of Kotor, preserving Orthodox heritage and the enduring spirit of freedom.
