Situated on the Adriatic coast in the heart of Bar's promenade, King Nikola’s Palace is an elegant summer residence built in 1885. Although known today by this name, the palace was originally constructed by Prince Petar Karađorđević, King Nikola's son-in-law, as a gift to his wife, Princess Zorka. Later, King Nikola purchased it and used it as his summer residence. The complex comprises the Large and Small Palaces, a chapel, two guard towers, and a winter garden. In 1910, a spacious ballroom with a rectangular base and rounded corners was added to the western façade of the Large Palace. In front of the palace once stood a wooden pier used for docking ships and yachts. King Nikola was an avid maritime enthusiast and owned ten yachts, the most famous being "Sybil," purchased from writer Jules Verne. Today, King Nikola’s Palace houses the Bar Homeland Museum, preserving rich archaeological, historical, and ethnological collections. Visitors can explore the well-preserved rooms and enjoy cultural events frequently held in this beautiful setting.
