Selimija Mosque – The Heart of Islamic Culture in Bar

At the foot of the ancient walls of Stari Bar, surrounded by olive groves and whispers of the sea breeze, rises the magnificent Selimija Mosque — one of the most impressive modern Islamic structures in the Balkans. But this is more than just a place of worship — it is a cultural, spiritual, and educational center, a symbol of unity and perseverance for the Muslim community of Bar. The mosque itself covers 600 square meters and can accommodate between 1,200 and 1,500 worshippers. But Selimija is much more than a prayer hall — the entire complex spans approximately 4,000 square meters, divided into two large wings. The right wing houses classrooms, a computer lab, a modern kindergarten with a playground, a library, a research center, a guesthouse, and administrative offices. The left wing offers an oriental restaurant, a hall for Sharia weddings, a translation room, a religious gift shop, guest accommodations, and even a sports and congress hall. Selimija is not merely a place for prayer — it is a space for learning, connection, and community. It is open and welcoming to all who wish to experience the spirit of faith, the richness of culture, and the beauty of contemporary Islamic architecture in the heart of Montenegro.
