On the slopes of Mirovica Hill near Old Bar stands one of the oldest olive trees in the world – simply known as the Old Olive Tree. Estimated to be over 2,000 years old, possibly even 2,400, it is a natural and cultural monument of great significance. This tree has withstood earthquakes, storms, and wars. Its thick trunk and twisted branches are living witnesses to centuries of history, cultural encounters, and changing times. Local legends say that feuding families made peace beneath its canopy – giving the hill its name, Mirovica, meaning “place of peace.” Today, the Old Olive Tree is a protected heritage site and a beloved attraction in Bar. Fenced and preserved, it still welcomes admiration. Its quiet endurance and timeless presence remind us how nature and history are deeply intertwined with human destiny.
