Black Lake – The Eye of the Mountain

On the northern side of Durmitor, surrounded by pine forests and towering peaks, lies Black Lake, the most famous and largest glacial lake in the region. It consists of two parts – the Great and the Small Lake – connected by a narrow strait that freezes in winter and often dries up in summer. Situated at 1,418 meters above sea level, the lake changes color throughout the year – from emerald green to almost black, which gave it its name. Towering behind it is Savin Kuk, creating a truly magical landscape. Black Lake has long symbolized Durmitor – a place where nature reflects in the stillness of water. Its shores invite you to walk, while its cold waters refresh and inspire. Here, the mountain is not just seen – it is felt and lived.
